Subsidies are fundamentally important to risk-mitigation in the agricultural industry. I think governments should look at additional avenues of subsidy to encourage some degree of agricultural localization, apiculture, indigenous crops, and lower-impact farming practices. I think programs to encourage individual landowner-farmers to continue farming are also in order.
