Subsidies are fundamentally important to risk-mitigation in the agricultural industry. I think governments should look at additional avenues of subsidy to encourage some degree of agricultural localization, apiculture, indigenous crops, and lower-impact farming practices. I think programs to encourage individual landowner-farmers to continue farming are also in order.
...One more thing. I'm doing a little head-count. Would you be interested in writing for a collaborative blog, to launch in mid-2008? Environment, economy, ethics, education, et cetera.
